Wave Nature of Electromagnetic Radiation

The wave theory of electromagnetic radiation holds that a radiation is a moving sinusoidal wave.

The diagram below depicts a schematic view of an electromagnetic wave.

From the figure, the electromagnetic wave is propagating along the z-axis. Note that the electric and magnetic waves are traveling mutually at right angles along the same axis.

To be brief, electric field E and magnetic field H are perpendicular to the direction of propagation and oscillate in the x-y plane.
